Penitentiary
Built in 1829 in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this prison was designed by the Quakers
who believed the best way to reform criminals was through penitence.
The inmates were kept in small windowless cells in solitary
confinement. Communication with other prisoners was strictly
forbidden, and even being caught talking, singing or whistling to
one's self resulted in being sent to a punishment cell and
restricted food and water.
This is one of the most
talked about haunted locations in the U.S. and absolutely amazing to
