Eastern State Penitentiary

Built in 1829 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this prison was designed by the Quakers who believed the best way to reform criminals was through penitence. The inmates were kept in small windowless cells in solitary confinement. Communication with other prisoners was strictly forbidden, and even being caught talking, singing or whistling to one's self resulted in being sent to a punishment cell and restricted food and water.

This is one of the most talked about haunted locations in the U.S. and absolutely amazing to witness in person.
